Special to the Record-Courier The Kent State women’s basketball team (20-10) has accepted a berth to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Kent State will face Michigan (17-13) on Friday at Crisler Arena at the University of Michigan. The game time has yet to be determined. Kent State is 0-2 all-time against Michigan, but have not faced the Wolverines since the 1981-82 season. The two teams had just one common opponent this season in Ball State — Michigan defeated the Cardinals 87-67 Nov. 13, while Kent State posted a 72-63 win Jan. 23. The winner of Kent State-Michigan will face the winner of Toledo-Pittsburgh in a second-round contest to be played on a date between March 20-23. This season’s berth marks the first postseason appearance for the Golden Flashes since the 2004 season, when KSU took part in the WNIT. It also marks the seventh time Kent State has advanced to postseason play (NCAA 1982, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002; WNIT 2004). The Mid-American Conference advanced a record five teams to postseason playthis season: Bowling Green (NCAA), Toledo (WNIT), Kent State (WNIT) Eastern Michigan (WNIT) and Akron (WBI). Comments
