MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kent State (5-9) allowed seven runs in the second inning and Kansas State (13-2) never looked back in an 11-0 win Sunday over the Golden Flashes in the four-game series finale. “This game was a microcosm of the entire weekend,” said KSU coach Scott Stricklin. “We were outplayed, outhit and outpitched. As a team, we need to learn from this and if we can do that, we will get better.” KSU junior Kyle Hallock fell to 0-2 on the year, giving up 10 runs on nine hits and four walks in 41/3 innings. Junior Ben Klafczynski led the offense with two hits in four at-bats. The Wildcats’ Justin Lindsey improved to 2-0 on the year, throwing seven shutout innings on only five hits and two walks. Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings, but Kansas State exploded for seven runs in the second. Kent State tried to rally in the fourth when sophomores David Lyon and Jimmy Rider singled with one out, but fifth-year senior Jared Bartholomew grounded into a double play to end the Flashes’ threat. Kansas State added a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth for the final 11-0 score.
