Associated Press GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Brandon McCarthy pitched three scoreless innings and the Texas Rangers defeated Cleveland 5-0 Saturday. Cleveland was without shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, out with a strained left groin and Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler sat out with a sprained right ankle. Both got hurt Friday and are expected to be sidelined at least a week. McCarthy, competing for a spot in the Rangers’ rotation, allowed three hits, one walk and struck out three. McCarthy missed the second half of 2009 with a stress fracture in his right shoulder — making his fifth trip to the disabled list since being acquired from the Chicago White Sox before the 2007 season. Indians starter Justin Masterson struck out six in 32⁄3 innings. The right-hander, already selected to the rotation by manager Manny Acta, gave up three hits, one walk and an unearned run. David Murphy drove in two runs and rookies Matt Brown and Joaquin Aria each had two of Texas’ 12 hits. INDIANS NOTEBOOK Cleveland Indians reliever Kerry Wood missed his scheduled appearance against the Texas Rangers on Saturday with arm soreness. “He has a little spring soreness and just didn’t feel ready today,” manager Manny Acta said. “He’ll be ready in a few days.”
