Woods responders concerned about domestic violence Associated Press ORLANDO, Fla. — The ambulance crew that responded after Tiger Woods crashed his SUV would not allow his wife to ride with him to the hospital because they suspected domestic violence, documents released Friday by the Florida Highway Patrol show. But a police officer who responded said he didn’t know where the crew got that information because he never heard it from anyone at the scene. The reports also showed Woods’ wife, Elin, turned over two bottles of pain pills to troopers after the Nov. 27 crash outside the couple’s suburban Orlando home. Woods crashed his sport utility vehicle into a fire hydrant at 2:30 a.m., and officers found him lying in the street. The couple told investigators Elin Woods smashed the back window of the SUV with a golf club so she could unlock a door and pull him out. Woods, the world’s No. 1 golfer, has strenuously denied his wife abused him.
Music City Bowl extends SEC deal NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Music City Bowl has extended its partnership with the Southeastern Conference through the 2013 season. The bowl in Nashville matches teams from the SEC and the Atlantic Coast Conference typically between the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The bowl announced the extension Friday. Pacquiao and Clottey meet on the star ARLINGTON, Texas — The phenomenon that is Manny Pacquiao grew with a series of wins against some of the biggest names around. Now he has a fight to win against a guy who has nothing to lose. It wasn’t supposed to be that way, but things rarely turn out as planned in boxing. Instead of fighting in one of the biggest bouts ever against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao will have to settle for fighting in one of the biggest stadiums ever. The opponent is Joshua Clottey, and he’s what the wise guys in Las Vegas would call a live dog. A talented boxer who has never been stopped and briefly held a piece of the welterweight title, he brings some credentials of his own into Saturday night’s 147-pound fight at Cowboy Stadium.
Ernie Els takes the lead at Doral DORAL, Fla. — Ernie Els was in the lead and off the golf course, and he wasn’t sure which made him feel better. Rushing to finish as dark clouds gathered over the Blue Monster, Els made one last birdie for a 6-under 66 and a one-shot lead over Robert Allenby before heavy rain suspended the second round Friday in the CA Championship. The 18 players who didn’t finish were hopeful of getting back on the course late Friday afternoon, although none could keep Els from his first lead after any round on U.S. soil since he won the Honda Classic two years ago.
Vonn clinches 3rd World Cup title Lindsey Vonn is looking forward to some well-earned time away from the slopes. The American says she’ll skip Saturday’s World Cup slalom after having clinched her third consecutive overall title. She needs to give her bruised right knee about four to six weeks to heal. Skiing on that bothersome knee, and with her broken right pinkie protected by a green molded cast, Vonn clinched the overall title Friday with her U.S.-record 33rd career race win in a super-G at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Vonn described the pep talk she gave herself Friday this way: “I said, ‘OK, you’ve done this before. You’ve dealt with this pain. Just go out there and do your best.’ It was, for me, the best way to end such an amazing season.”
