I was putting my groceries in my trunk at the Rootstown Giant Eagle (this Saturday) when the persons next to me in the parking lot told me to "Go Home" and gave me the finger. I was with my sister and grandchildren and have to admit that I was shocked and left speechless! I don't believe they even noticed the children in the back seat or it didn't matter to them. Go home?? I am home, I'm a natural citizen born and raised right here in Ravenna. If you were going by my looks alone, I would assume you thought I was foreign and if I were to go by your looks alone, I would assume you to be a descentant of the Southern Appalachian region people who came from England, Scotland, and Germany.(Foreign to some but a natural citizen none the less). You are obviously third/fourth generation and education is something you didn't seek or you would know how ignorant your statement was and you probably should have taken the beer back and exchanged it for food to nourish your straved brain. A mind is a terrible thing to waste!
I will continue to shop, eat, live, and work where my dollar dictates, because that's the only color that matters, the color GREEN. You have convinced me of one thing and that is to obtain a concealed carry permit to protect myself and my grandchildren from hate filled, ignorant, racist people such as yourself.

Great dialogue on such a "hot topic" and glad to know there are plenty of decent people who are willing to see things from both sides of the fence. Ravenna and surrounding areas are still good places to live.

Boy that is so sad. Sad, that someone would just judge you on your looks. I'm sorry that has happened to you. Unfortunatelly racial discrimination comes in all forms. Let me share what happened to me and my hubby last weekend.

We were taking our 8 month old grandson home to Akron. As my husband and I came around the corner to go down his street, I saw my daughter-in-law standing in front of the corner store the next street over, she had been waiting for a ride, from someone that was not familiar with the area. We turned around to see if she needed help with something, and pulled down the side street next to the store. While we were talking with her through our window, a host of black young men gathered on the side walk behind her. She is very attractive and pretty naive. One had moved to the side of her to look inside of our car and was glaring at us from the side walk. And was doing the whole gangster dance behind her. The whole "what are you doing in my neighborhood" kind of thing. She was oblivous. She calls her ride and tells them never mind that we were going to take her to the store and gets into the car. As we turn around and head back toward her street, the one that was gawking at us from around her, raises his hand and points his hand as a gun (gangster style)at me, while yelling "that's right cracker b*tch, getch yo @ss up outa here". Then a bunch of them ran to their car, and followed us. At this point, my daughter-in-law finally clues in to what is happening (sometimes not the brightest crayon in the box). Needless to say we did not pull into her drive, we didn't want them to know where exactly the kids lived. They followed us for for a few blocks and finally gave up.

Not only was I offended by their actions, and acting as if I had no business being there, but I was scared to death. CCW here I come.

"Perhaps the blame should be placed on the groups of people that instill racial distrust based on the actions of their race."

Gosh Harvey, sounds like you are describing white people to me and at the forefront, ignorant red necks like yourself.

I am so sorry you had to experience that. I don't know what is wrong with people anymore. I was brought up with the ethics that you don't judge others by their "skin color". I always look at a persons heart and understand them. I was also told not to judge others too. If it was me, I would of smiled and said "Hi" to you. Have a nice day and please don't let one small incident taint the whole town.

I try to live my life by these few words: Treat others as you wish to be treated. If someone says Hi and I do not know them, I say Hi. If the checkout person tells me to have a nice day, I wish the same to them. It takes seconds of my time to be kind to others, who knows, my comments to them just might make their day. And I do not care if the person talking to me is white, black, purple, orange, has one arm or none; they are human and deserve kindness. Try it sometime....you never know who needs a kind word.

I agree that no matter what color or how much money we all have there is always going to be not only racial comments but people from all races think they have the right to say stupid things to others. We as a BETTER person than those people need to just keep our heads held high and not worrie about people like that and go on with our lives. We all have our ways of thnking but I was brought up to RESPECT all people that have the right to be respected.

veras5th-

You have more class, grace, dignity and intelligence than Old Ma, Harvey or those men could ever hope to have.
