We have a yellow lab mix. He will be 3 next month. We got him fixed appox 3 months ago. The vet said he clearly has an "attitude problem, and neuturing him will fix the problem." Well needless to say that 3 months later and the aggressiveness has gotten worse. He gets really bad if we take him byes for the day and he is tired when we come home. All anyone has to do is look at him and he is growling. When we have people over with kids he has to be locked up because if the chae after our kids he goes after them. You might say he is just being protective but he also growls at my children. The vet suggested some thing to try; staring him down when he growls (tried several times but odie does not usually turn away.) How can you tell a 50 something pound dog, that clearly thinks he is the boss, that he is not (without getting attacked)? If he is laying in the middle of the floor and you need him to move and he thinks otherwise, he will win becuse honestly i am becoming more afraid of him. I really don't want to ge rid of him because we have had him since he was 4 months old.

Versatile K9 Training Academy is awesome. Working with them for a very short time completely changed the balance of my household (100 lb Rhodesian Ridgeback and 80-lb RR/Boxer mix). Absolutely worth the effort. http://www.facebook.com/VersatileK9

Call Memorial Animal Hospital 330-678-2770 and ask for the Doggie Boot Camp Behavior printout. They can make a copy for you and I know from experience it works. You just need the time and patience to work with your dog. Good luck.

Honestly I had the same problem with my lab mix. He was super friendly with people but culd be aggressive when he had something he should or if he didnt get his way. I got him fixed right after I had my daughter and he calmed down for a few days and then got 10 times worse. He actualy ended up biting my daughter from being so jealous. It wasn't bad but we ended up putting him down.(we had him for 4 years and spent thousands of dollars on him because unfortunately he got loose and was hit by a car, so I know how hard it can be, animals are part of the family) Afterwards, an animal rescue lady told me that when they are being aggressive or acting up to put the animal in a room by himself or in a cage where they aren't around anyone or anything. The only other thing I can say is try a training course with him. He has to know who's boss or things wont change. I got this information too late so I hope it helps for you. Good luck and if I can think of anything else I will let you know!
