I am getting into Ravenna around 3 o'clock every day and trying to get home like everyone else. Unfortunately, I hit three school zones on my way home. The worst I see is around West Main Elementary. Everyone wants to pick their little Johnny up from school. I'm not saying that these parents and grandparents shouldn't, it is an elementary school afterall. But have some courtesy for the rest of us. I turn onto Diamond from West Main in my attempt to get home. There is so much congestion at the school, whether it be due to parking lot being full or people not wanting to get blocked into the lot I don't know. People routinely sit at the 4 way stop at Diamond and Spruce, and don't move. Yesterday it was almost backed up to Main St. I had to go around 5 cars just to go thru the stop sign. Can't we work together to make sure little Johnny gets home safely as well as those of us that don't have kids at that school? Park a street down and walk to the school, carpool, something. Not everyone travelling Diamond is going to the school!

The pick up situation at West Main has always been a problem. Several scenarios have been tried but there's no good solution. The parking lot is so small that it's hard to get in, pick up your child, then leave. I feel for the residents in the area because they become trapped until the traffic clears.
I don't understand why the police department can't be there for that half hour at the end of the day when the parents are picking up their children. It is a real safety issue that needs addressed. A little traffic control would be nice so that everyone can get their children and the buses can get in and out too.
This week is especially hard to deal with since the sidewalks were not cleared. These kids would never make it to school if they had to walk in that knee-high snow. If I had a child that walked to this, or any other, school and the sidewalks were not clear, you better believe that I would be in that traffic jam too to pick up my child.
Just be patient and deal with it. Spring will be here before you know it and things should return to somewhat normal and the traffic situation won't be so bad.

In this day and age you suggest letting a child walk home?I could understand if we are talking about high school but elementary and middle school children? That is not a good idea!!!

The schools need to have pull-offs so the parents don't block traffic. Or here's an idea, let the kids walk home.

I have to agree with all here...a little common courtesy would not kill anyone, neither would patience. I am a mom and I hate mommy traffic, it is almost like Christmas time when most everyone is rude and has forgotten the basic consideration for others.
Unfortunately nothing will change- not peoples patience or peoples courtesy- Just be careful of the children

As I stated earlier, just like the last couple of posts, have patience. I don't live in that area but often drive that way and I don't mind it at all. I understand the issue fully and we all have choices but, just have some patience and buy a coke!

So you don't have a choice because that is where your home is? I'm confused, wasn't it your choice to have your home near the school? The last I knew there were thousands of homes not near schools...
And no, I am not one of the parents picking up my "ankle-biter", but my child does attend that school. The parking lot holds a very small amount of cars, anything a potential home owner or renter could tell prior to deciding to purchase in that area.

NOTTAMOMMA:
You need to calm down. People heard you the first time. Some day those so called ankle biters might be caring for you. EX: Hospital, policeman, etc.
You sound like someone who has no patience, or courtsey of others. Life is to short to be so up tight.
Have a blessed week, and maybe a cup of tea.

WHAT PART DOES EVERYONE NOT UNDERSTAND..... NOT EVERYONE HAS A CHOICE HERE>>>THE PARENTS CAN HAVE COURTESY FOR THE PEOPLE THAT DO LIVE IN THE AREA....I HAVE SEEN HOW THESE PARENTS ARE AND THEY ARE LIKE ANIMALS THINKING NOBODY HAS ANYTHING BETTER TO DO THEN WAIT TO ARRIVE HOME..PEOPLE THAT WORK ALL DAY DONT WANT TO HAVE TO WAIT IN A LINE SO PARENTS CAN WAIT FOR THEIR ANKLE BITERS TO GET OUT OF SCHOOL>>>>
