November 2, 2009

Record-Courier staff report

An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a house at 605 Crain Avenue on Sunday, where a party was taking place.

Lt. Bill Myers of the Kent Fire Department said nobody was injured, but the residents of the house have been sheltered by the American Red Cross.

“The house is not livable,” he said. “There was extensive damage fire damage throughout the whole house. It was well advanced upon our arrival.”

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Firefighters were called to the house at 4:31 a.m. Initially, there were reports of people trapped in the house, but those reports proved to be false.

Frank Smith is the owner of the rental property.

Myers said Lt. David Moore was the initial commander at the scene and eventually, Chief James Williams oversaw the firefighting efforts.

Mutual aid was provided by the Streetsboro, Stow, Ravenna, Ravenna Township, Mantua and Aurora fire departments.
