'Discover Downtown 2010 was a huge success

Many thanks to everyone that made the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce/Main Street Kent Discover Downtown 2010 event such a huge success -- KSU's Student Success Program for providing Lolly the Trolley to transport the students to and from campus, volunteers and the nearly 30 area businesses that participated. The annual event is held in the heart of downtown to welcome KSU students to Kent and show them what's available so close to campus. As the students got off the trolley they were given a goody bag that included a map of Kent, the official Visitors Guide, coupons and menus from local businesses and restaurants, and an "I'm Nuts About Kent" frisbee.

The Chamber handed out 500 free hot dogs and 27 cases of cold water to the students. One student new to the area said the free food was "one more reason to love Kent!" Main Street Kent gave away an iPad to one lucky KSU student.

Special thanks to the Central Portage County Visitors & Convention Bureau and the City of Kent for continuing to support such a worthwhile community-related event that benefits the area's businesses and economy overall.

This year's event was by far the most successful and well-attended, thanks to the collaborative efforts of all involved. We hope that more businesses will take advantage of the free-of-charge opportunity to get in front of so many students and their parents next year.
