By Dave O'Brien | Staff Writer A house on Trares Road in Suffield was declared a total loss after a fire Monday evening, though three residents who were home at the time managed to escape without injuries. Suffield Fire Chief Robert Rasnick said firefighters responded shortly after 7 p.m. Monday to 2360 Trares Road, about 12 miles southwest of downtown Ravenna, after a next-door neighbor called and reported a fire. Rasnick said he could tell the fire was serious when he saw a large column of smoke from the blaze even before he arrived on the scene. Rasnick said the single-story house was fully-involved when firefighters arrived. Water to fight the flames was shuttled from the Paradise Lake Country Club about one mile west of the scene, he said. The house and its contents were a total loss to the tune of about $230,000, Rasnick said. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the family, who are insured, he said. The Brimfield, Mogadore and Randolph fire departments also responded to the blaze, Rasnick said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but arson is not suspected, he said. Built in 1999, the one-story, 1,344 square foot house sits on 2.86 acres, according to Portage County property records. Comments
