Parker Gibson, son of Rob and Judy Gibson and brother to Megan Gibson, recently has become an Eagle Scout of Randolph Troop No. 559. Parker's Eagle Scout project consisted of a sign posted at Atwater Park that reads "Old School Park" and four picnic tables for the community. Donations provided by Conlift Inc. of Rootstown and grandparents helped fund the project. A celebration was given in his honor for his achievements, which included 50 friends and family members. Special recognition was received from President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, and Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland. Parker has been in Scouting since 2001 and is currently a sophomore at Waterloo High School. He has earned 29 merit badges in his career of Scouting. As a Scout, Parker canoed on the Clarion and Allegheny River in Pennsylvania and the Mohican River in Ohio; camped in Cook Forest and Gettysburg battle fields in Pennsylvania; and also camped at Camp Manitoc, Butler, Quail Hollow and Camp Perry of Ohio. Parker, along with his troop, hiked many miles on trails throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio and biked along the Cuyahoga Valley. Visiting the Natural History Museum, Art Museum of Cleveland, and feeding the homeless in Euclid are just a few of his many adventures. Parker's hobbies include camping, football, wrestling, hiking, shooting, canoeing, swimming, biking, tennis, computer games, and chess. "Parker's full dedication, leadership qualities, survival and first aid skills will guide him through a lifetime of experiences," said his Scoutmaster and father, Rob Gibson. "I want to thank all my Scout leaders, fellow Scouts, relatives, Conlift Inc. employees, church deacon and especially my mom and dad for supporting me to reach this goal," said Parker. Comments
