Jean Veppert of Kent marked her 90th birthday recently, and her children hosted a birthday party for her at the Silver Oaks Senior Center in Kent. In attendance were 62 people, including many relatives from the Columbus area. She received cards from friends and family, near and far. Jean was born July 2, 1920. Her parents are Samuel and Pearl Evans. She has spent most of her life in Ohio. She attended school in Suffield and graduated from Edinburg High School. She married Joe Veppert on Feb. 24, 1940. Following his death on April 6, 1963, she went to school to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Akron City Hospital until her retirement. Her children are Rootstown residents Dorothy (and John) Serva, James (and Donna) Veppert, and Charles (and Joyce) Veppert, and Alan (and Donna) Veppert of Auburn, Pa. She has nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is a member of the Red Hat Society, a longtime member of the Suffield United Church of Christ, and past ICU coordinator for the UCC. She enjoys her flowers, reading, making jewelry and sewing.
