TALLMADGE -- After 14 years as the city's leader, Mayor Christopher Grimm said he will resign from his position April 4, to take a job as deputy clerk of court with the Stow Municipal Court.

"I'm going to miss being mayor and miss the people I work with," Grimm said. "We've done some pretty cool things in the past 14 years.

"My wife and I decided sometime back that I did not want to run again," Grimm said. "I haven't got it in me to run another campaign."

The mayor said Clerk of Courts Lisa Zeno Carano, who just began a six-year term, asked Grimm if he would be interested in the position when the previous deputy retired at the end of this month.

"It's a great job to get into," he said, adding he has "great respect for Lisa."

Grimm said he will be making $74,000 in his new job. He made about $78,000 in Tallmadge.

The mayor has two years remaining on his term and City Council President Jack Sarver would act as mayor from April 4 until a new mayor is officially sworn in.

According to the city's charter, the position will be offered to Sarver first; if he were to turn it down, a member of council would have to get a super-majority (five person) vote to be the mayor.

Sarver was not immediately available for comment the evening of March 15.

If Council does not choose one of its members to be mayor, the city's precinct committee would take applications from Democrats in the city who are interested in the position.

In 2006, Grimm applied for a vacant Summit County Clerk of Courts position. Current Clerk Daniel Horrigan, the only other applicant in 2006, was selected for the job over Grimm.
