The Portage County Teen Board has selected Zach Thomas and Emily Paulus as the February Teens of the Month.
Zach is the son of Greg and Chris Thomas of Ravenna. He is a senior at Ravenna High School, where he has been active in the Student Council, National Honor Society, Leadership Club, and Maplewood Pre-Medical Professional Club.
He has participated in the Athletic Trainer Workshop, Homecoming Court and Science Olympiad. He is a three-year academic letter winner, four-year Scholar Athlete, and valedictorian of his class.
He earned a junior black belt in Kwanmuken style martial arts and has earned awards in football and baseball.
He has been a volunteer in Relay for Life, LMCC, youth football, Salvation Army and Feeding the Homeless. Zach's hobbies include baseball, football, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family at the beach.
After high school, he plans to attend college and to pursue a career in the medical field.
Emily is the daughter of Bill and Caroline Paulus of Mogadore.
She is a senior at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, where she has been active in Student Council, choir and ensemble, Youth Leadership Portage County, Buckeye Girls' State, National Honor Society, Key Club, Ohio Model United Nations, French Club and Drama Guild.
She has earned awards in dance, French, music and academic achievement.
She has volunteered with Safer Futures, canned food drives, fund-raisers, Relay for Life, blood drives and Habitat for Humanity, has been a physical therapy volunteer at Akron Children's Hospital, and performed with the choral ensemble at area locations.
Emily is a competitive dancer at Keithe Williams Performing Arts Academy. She enjoys singing, reading, working out, skiing, ice skating, hiking, swimming, and being with friends and family.
She plans to attend the College of Wooster, majoring in physical therapy or neurology.
