Members and friends of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Ravenna celebrated the church's 82nd anniversary on Feb. 21. The theme for the all-day event was "I've Decided to Follow Jesus."

The Rev. Andrew Wright, pastor of the church, spoke at the morning service. The afternoon speaker was the Rev. B.J. Grant of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Ravenna.

A celebratory dinner was served in the fellowship hall between the services.

During the afternoon service, the church hosted the congregation of the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The mistress of ceremonies was Sis. Ruby Mays.

Sis. Mozelle Trotter offered words of welcome. The New Mount Calvary members presented songs of praise.

Sis. Deseree Liddell offered a reading. Sis. Jodee Allison, church secretary, read the church history.

The ministers who have served the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church are the Rev. McMann, the Rev. Burt, the Rev. Williams, the Rev. People, the Rev. Govan, the Rev. James Douglas, the Rev. James A. Randolph, the Rev. Beverly Sadler, and the Rev. Isaiah Moss, who served 41 years and retired in November.

Members moved to a new and larger church building on Nov. 26, 1978. Deacon Bell Smith Jr. was the chairman who supervised the building of the new church.

The Rev. John Hurd and the Rev. Terri Hurd are associate pastors of Pilgrim Rest.

The co-chairpersons for the anniversary event were Sis. Artherene Wilmington and Sis. Fannie Seeden.

The Finance Committee is made up of Sis. Mozelle Trotter, trustee, and Deacons Cecil West and Alex Kelly. Members of the Kitchen Committee are Sis. L. Putnam, Sis. L. Richardson, Sis. Gloriosa Hadden, Bro. W. Berry and Bro. Ben Richardson.

Sis. Wilmington expressed regret that there were no photographs taken of the visiting church members on the anniversary.
