Parents with young tots looking for something to do should check out the latest events at the Step2 Store in Streetsboro. Store Manager Cathy Linard has expanded their activity schedule beyond their current open play times. "We usually send a couple e-mails per month that highlight special offers, new items and play events at the Step2 Store," said Cathy. "We include storytime and at least one evening open play time a month." According to Cathy, they hold festive events to tie in with the holidays. During February, for example, they had a Princess Ball for Valentine's Day. There are plenty of toys for the children to play with during the play times. Cathy and her team rearrange the toy displays of kitchen sets, train tables, ride-on cars and playsets every month. When I visited, they were getting ready to set up a putt-putt course for March. Anytime customers come in, their children can play as the parents browse. There is a clearance section that offers discontinued merchandise at great prices. Every Tuesday and Thursday playtime is open to the public from 9 to 10 a.m. The sessions are limited to 15 children; if the session is full, a status sign will be posted on the door. Each child, who is 1 to 5 years of age, can participate in three open play times, plus one pre-registration special event, per month. Anyone can also schedule private play times available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Saturdays at 9 a.m. that are free. There are also birthday party packages for Sunday afternoons or weekday evenings. To sign up for the e-mails, visit www.step2store.com and complete the online form. The Step2 Store is located in Streetsboro at 10010 Aurora-Hudson Road. Call 330-650-5186 with any questions. The store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Robenson was recently adopted by Jen and Barry Confer of Stow from Haiti after surviving the earthquake earlier this year. He joined his new family just 12 days after the earthquake destroyed his orphanage in Port au Prince. Jen and Barry had been waiting for two years to adopt him. Adoptions like his are usually a three- to four-year process; however, the devastation in the region made it possible for families to get their children sooner. Jen said Robenson is very well adjusted and is learning English. He joins Jen's 14-year-old twins, Maria and Joel, and 5-year-old sister, Johanna (who was adopted from China). ------ The Altar & Rosary Society of St. Joan of Arc Church celebrated Valentine's Day with the residents of Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro. Party attendees were treated to sweets, stuffed animal gifts, toiletries, Valentine's Day cards and trivia games. It was an extra special day for resident Stephanie Kocis, who celebrated her 94th birthday that same day. She was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Pennsylvania, where she lived for most of her life. She moved to Maple Wood here in Streetsboro about six years ago to live closer to her five sons. Stephanie said some of her favorite memories are from the early days of her marriage to her husband, Joseph. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m., with an open house continuing until 6 p.m. The public is invited to tour the facility. There will be light refreshments and door prizes as well. Sam and Laura Lewis, who are the facility's owners, rebuilt Dr. Lewis' chiropractic practice to include the religious gift shop. The space is larger, allowing the store to carry more items. Laura is also happy with the move because it's nice for their family to be all together. Our Lady's Gifts is owned by Laura and her mother, Terri Moore. Stop by and check it out. Their hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Dr. Sam sees patients by appointment. His office number is 330-422-1551. ------ Time to put away any winter/holiday decorations that have been lingering around your house and welcome spring! ------ Have any good news you'd like to share?
