By Colin McEwen Record-Courier staff writer A Ravenna man is facing four charges in two cities after he was involved in a pair of incidents Saturday and early Sunday. Mohammad Omar, 30, of 874 W. Main St., is accused of impersonating a police officer in Kent, and just hours later carrying a firearm into an Akron nightclub. Lt. Ray Stein of the Kent Police Department said officers were notified shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday of a disturbance on Franklin Avenue near the Kent Recreation Center. When an officer arrived, he found an “altercation” between two motorists — one of whom was Omar. “Through the officer’s investigation, he learned the suspect may have been trying to pass himself off as a police officer,” Stein said. “There was something said about him being a police officer. When the police showed up it was discovered he was not — our officers found out otherwise.” In that incident, Omar was charged with impersonating a peace officer and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, both fourth-degree misdemeanors. Omar was not arrested, but was issued a summons to appear in Portage County Municipal Court in Kent. Four hours later Omar was arrested at the Lux Nightclub & Ultra Lounge in Akron and charged with possession of firearms where liquor is sold, a fifth-degree felony, and carrying a weapon while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor. According to Summit County Court records, Omar was released from jail on a signature bond. Omar was scheduled to be arraigned today in Kent Municipal Court at 8:15 a.m. stemming from the incident in Kent. He is also scheduled for a status hearing on the other charges on July 15 at Akron Municipal Court.
