The Ravenna woman accused of killing her ex-husband remains in the Portage County jail after a motion to reduce her bond was denied Friday.

Caprice Burrell, 36, charged with murder and vehicular homicide, is accused of intentionally driving her minivan into Daron Worley, 35, as he walked along S.R. 59 in Ravenna Township on Feb. 28.

Burrell, wearing an orange-and-white jail uniform, appeared Friday in Portage County Common Pleas Court.

Her attorney, Associate Public Defender Mark Carfolo, asked Judge Laurie Pittman to lower bond, noting that Burrell is a lifelong Ravenna resident and has no prior criminal record.

Carfolo also asked for more time to file a motion to retain the services of an expert in crash reconstruction.

Pittman denied Carfolo’s request for a lower bond.

She kept Burrell’s cash or surety bond set at $300,000, and gave the defense until June 26 to find an expert in crash reconstruction and file a motion with the court.

Portage County Assistant Prosecutor Eugene Muldowney told Pittman the prosecution was not prepared for an argument on bond, adding that he believed the matter had been settled.

Pittman agreed.

“I’m very uncomfortable modifying the bond,” she said. “I felt that the bond was appropriate.”

Carfolo said he plans to retain the services of someone familiar with crash reconstruction, such as a retired physics professor or an engineer.

“Our contention is that this was an accident,” he said. “So that would dovetail with their expertise.”

At about 6 p.m. Feb. 28, Worley left Burrell in the parking lot of the Walmart on S.R. 59 and began walking east toward Ravenna. Authorities have said an argument may have occurred in the parking lot between the two. Minutes later, Burrell struck Worley with her vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary results of the crash investigation showed no evidence of braking at the scene, and neither weather nor alcohol were determined to have played a factor.

Worley and Burrell married and divorced in the 1990s but reconciled last year, according to Worley’s friends and family. The couple reportedly planned to re-marry in October.

A Portage County Grand Jury returned a true bill of indictment on the murder and vehicular homicide charges April 2. Authorities arrested Burrell later that day.

It amazes me that the public defender is going to try and get an expert to say " she didn't hit him intentionally"!

Let's see he is walking down the side of road, no skid marks if a NORMAL person would hit the break if they was going to hit something let alone a person..

No crayon here,,,

just convict her and put her in jail there is no way she didn't mean to hit him on purpose.... please that is so profound, she was ****** at him swerved at him and instead of using intelligence and controlling her anger she hit him none the less and therefore, guilty,, screw the b.s it was intentionally... doesn't anyone watch Matlock, NCI's , CSI Las Vegas or the old Mannix shows or Cannon she did it she knows it and trying to play ignorance to what???

be a woman !! and did the crime do the time...
