STREETSBORO — About 2,300 city residents lost their power on Wednesday afternoon.

According Ohio Edison Spokeswoman Robin Patton, power was restored to all by about 4:30 p.m.

“We had a car-utility pole accident on (S.R.) 303, west of Diagonal Road,” she said. “It happened at about 3:15 p.m.”

Streetsboro police said the event was a “transformer explosion,” not an accident, that occurred in the 2200 block of S.R. 303, between the station and Diagonal Road.

The fire department responded to the scene, but there was no fire to extinguish, according to police.

Patton said it is possible a car hit the pole and then left the scene.

Streetsboro Service Director Bill Miller said outage affected Ward 1, Market Square Plaza.

“We’re lost the lights at Market Square Drive and (S.R.) 43,” he said. “We got a generator hooked to that.”

Police said motorists should treat all intersections where lights are out as four-way stops.

Streetsboro police reported receiving a high volume of calls regarding the outage, including one from Delta Systems, a Frost Road business.
