By Dave O'Brien Record-Courier staff writer Ravenna police have charged two area men in connection with an incident Saturday in which a 19-year-old Ravenna man was robbed at gunpoint, beaten, kidnapped and eventually dumped -- injured but alive -- 30 miles away in Trumbull County. Edwin E. Jones Jr., 37, of 161 E. Cedar St., Apt. 22, Ravenna and Eric A. Bacon, 19, of 9250 Jerome Road, Shalersville, were arraigned Monday and currently are being held at the Portage County jail on $200,000 cash bond each. They are both charged with one count each of kidnapping and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies, and felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Ravenna police Det. Scott Krieger said Tuesday the victim in the case reported that he was at Jones' residence early Saturday morning when he was beaten and robbed by four males. His wallet was taken and at one point a gun was brandished by one of the four suspects. The victim lost consciousness following the beating, and woke up in the trunk of a car, Krieger said. Ravenna Police Chief Randall McCoy said he had been stripped of his clothing. The victim eventually was let go in the 5200 block of Larson West Road in West Farmington, Trumbull County, about 30 miles northeast of Ravenna. Krieger said the victim managed to walk to a nearby house for help. An investigation was initiated after the victim reported the incident to Ravenna police. Jones was arrested Saturday, and Bacon was arrested Sunday, Krieger said. A motive had yet to be determined, and additional suspects are being sought, he said. A car possibly used to transport the victim out of Ravenna has been recovered, and is being processed for evidence by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Krieger said. Preliminary hearings for Jones and Bacon are set beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Anyone with information regarding Saturday's incident is asked to call Det. Krieger or Det. Sgt. David Rarrick at 330-296-6486. -- E-mail: dobrien@recordpub.com Phone: 330-298-1123 Comments
