Parking is at a premium at Ravenna Stadium on North Chestnut Street because of construction of the new Ravenna High School. The district has lost a number of parking spaces because of the project, which is scheduled for completion by fall 2010.

So for the first Ravenna Ravens home football game this season against Canton South at 7 p.m. Friday, Superintendent Tim Calfee has a message for those headed to the game: "Carpool, come early and know that traffic is going to be difficult."

If you can't find a space for your car, the district is providing parking at Robinson Memorial Hospital, at 6847 N. Chestnut St. just north of the stadium, with a shuttle bus running to the stadium from the hospital and back throughout the game.

Shuttles will be available starting at 5:45 p.m., Calfee said.

The district "wanted to have the football games (at Ravenna Stadium) and not have all away games" this season, he said. Four home games are scheduled this season.

Once construction is completed on the high school, the district will set a net gain in the number of parking spaces. But through this season and next season until the high school opens, Calfee asked for the public's patience and understanding.

"Because of construction, it's going to be slow getting in and out of the parking lots. It's going to be different," he said.
